DiscoveryLand Camp: the best way for kids to spend their summer: playing together with friends in fresh air (fun outdoor activities, weather permitting), while being supervised by trained counsellors.
The most common goals that parents told us about when they signed up their kids for summer camp were to increase their social skills, provide them with more time playing outdoors, and allow them to try fun new activities. With COVID-19 and its side effects, these goals are more important than ever. Our kids have been spending the majority of their times indoors, with their socialization, schooling, and entertainment coming from a screen for over 2 years. Not to mention the fear of uncertainty and constant bombardment of catastrophic news. In the middle of all of that, our goal is to provide them with a temporary escape and recharge their social batteries to their normal levels to last them during the camp session and beyond.
Our main goals for our campers this summer are:
RE-ESTABLISH REAL LIFE CONNECTIONS. Never before have we relied so heavily on technology for most aspects of our lives, and never before has returning to in-person communication been so important. We are aiming to provide a safe space for kids to reconnect or make new connections with like-minded, inspiring peers under the guidance of trained counsellors. Lasting friendships is a strong founding essence of our camp and something that we are excited to share during yet another summer.
EXPLORE NATURE AND SWITCH SCENERY. To recover from the many social restrictions and a reduced number of places to go to these past few years, we invite kids to explore the beautiful and fresh sceneries found so close to home. The majority of our programs will be held outdoors to ensure both a safe and refreshing environment.
ACQUIRE TOOLS TO STRENGTHEN RESILIENCE. With so many changes to regular lives, especially negative ones, kids often face disappointment and sadness. While we cannot change external factors causing these feelings, we can offer some tools and skills to help kids confront these challenges and change their attitudes toward them. A “can-do” attitude works magic!
RECHARGE MENTAL HEALTH. Many health professionals expressed their concerns over the short and long-term effects that public health emergencies can have on the mental health of children. Our camp offers an escape into a safe and positive space filled with like-minded peers and interesting activities, removed from the internet and any negative impacts it may cause. Our goal is to give kids a positive space that they can take with them beyond camp.
DiscoveryLand Camp offers a wide variety of activities that provide a foundation for future skills that can be developed in many different fields. We love our themed activities, not to mention that every week is packed with a specially developed mix of action-based adventures!
